Still looking for a marathon to take part in next year? Fancy your chances in a 26.2? Then check out our guide to some forthcoming events around the world.

When to apply

It is best to reserve your place now, because participation in a spring marathon requires at least three- or four-months training - or even six months if you are a beginner. This will give you enough time to build up mileage, avoid injury and taper in the immediate weeks before race day.

This is why it is important to identify events that match up with your personal preferences, whether that’s based on location, terrain or popularity. This list includes three elite Abbott World Majors spring events, as well as some lesser known races.

In the United States, the Boston Marathon is arguably the most famous spring race, but there are other enticing challenges throughout the season too. These include the Asheville Marathon in North Carolina, the Pittsburgh Marathon in Pennsylvania, the Flying Pig Marathon in Cincinnati, Ohio, the Vermont City Marathon in Burlington and the Fargo Marathon in North Dakota.

Over on the west coast, there are three events to pick from: the Los Angeles Marathon, the Big Sur Marathon and, even further north, the Eugene Marathon, which attracts runners around the world to Oregon. Outside the US, London and Tokyo have both established themselves as major races on every pro’s calendar.

If you are interested in taking part in one of these prestigious races, contact running coach Maximum Mileage Coaching today to set up your tailored marathon training schedule.
