Erica Rasmussen is an inspiration to all of us. This accomplished marathon runner bade farewell to obesity, lost 100 pounds and has even written a book about her story – so, how did she do it?

It hasn’t been an easy journey, but her running adventure began in a Utah hospital when she was pregnant, expecting a second child. She was obese and suffered from preeclampsia (extremely high blood pressure). It was then that she made a life-changing decision to take ownership of her health.

Barely able to even run in 2022, Rasmussen sought out help from a personal running coach who set about helping her transform her life with a tailored workout, strict nutrition and focused marathon training plan. In November 2023, she ran in the New York City Marathon - mission accomplished. Rasmussen, however, wanted more.

Determined to keep up momentum, she set a new goal of becoming the first woman to shed 100 pounds and compete in all the majors, while raising money for charities such as the Chris Klug Foundation, which promotes organ donation awareness. Hooked on running, she ran two races in two weeks this year, taking on the Berlin Marathon followed by the Chicago Marathon - two events that face fierce competition even just to enter.

Describing the seven World Major Marathons, Rasmussen said it is necessary to satisfy strict criteria to take part in the series, but she has already been accepted to run both Boston and London in 2025, and also has her sights set on Tokyo and Sydney.
